Robert P. Johnson is the founder, CEO, a director and 70% shareholder of AEI Capital Corporation, the holding company for all AEI-related entities and investment Funds. AEI Fund Management, Inc. is an investment program management company founded by him in 1978 and of which he is the sole stockholder. He has been employed in the investment industry his entire professional career. In that capacity, he has been involved in the development, analysis, marketing and management of public and private investment programs representing more than $1,290,000,000 of investor capital that has been managed to acquire more than 460 commercial properties across the USA.
Since 1970, Mr. Johnson has been the CEO, a director and a registered principal of AEI Securities, Inc., which is a member securities firm of FINRA and the Security Investors Protection Corporation (“SIPC”). Mr. Johnson is currently a principal of the General Partner of numerous public and private net lease property limited partnerships and 1031 exchange investment programs.
Marni J. Nygard, Esq., President, Chief Investment Officer and General Securities Principal, joined AEI in 2005. She is responsible for the implementation of AEI’s real estate acquisitions and its investment objectives and strategies, as well as the management of disposition processes for AEI.
Prior to joining AEI, Marni was employed as an attorney at CI Title in St. Paul, Minnesota for its residential and commercial property departments.
Keith Petersen, CPA, Chief Financial Officer, joined AEI in 2016. He is responsible for managing all AEI accounting and tax matters, including the preparation of SEC and investor reports.
Prior to joining AEI, Keith was employed with Pine River Capital Management as the Vice President of Tax compliance and with Deloitte Certified Public Accountants as a Senior Tax Manager.
Kevin Steele, Chief Operating Officer & Chief Acquisitions Officer joined AEI Capital in 2012 and is responsible for AEI’s net lease commercial property acquisition sourcing and identification through the development of business relationships with preferred corporate developers, tenant corporations and net lease property owners.
Kevin has more than 30 years of sales, marketing and corporate business operations experience. Prior to joining AEI Capital, Kevin was employed with Stan Johnson Company as Director of Marketing and Research.
Rona L. Newtson, Certified Regulatory Compliance Professional, Executive Vice President of Compliance and Operations of AEI Fund Management, General Securities Principal and the Chief Compliance Officer of AEI Securities, joined AEI in 1993. Rona is one of the equity owners of AEI Capital Corporation and is responsible for managing general operations and securities compliance requirements of affiliated companies and investment Funds.
Prior to joining AEI, Rona was employed in a similar capacity with Heartland Realty Investors, Inc. in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Kyle Hagen, CCIM, Executive Vice President of Portfolio Management, rejoined AEI in 2018. He is responsible for the management of AEI net leased properties including the sale of properties identified. Kyle manages property sales, leasing and tenant negotiations with a focus on maximizing asset values.
Kyle was previously employed by AEI from 2011 through 2016 in both the acquisitions and asset management departments. Prior to rejoining AEI, he was employed by East Lake Capital Management as Vice President and lead originator for healthcare real estate investments throughout the United States.
Paula Tillett, Executive Vice President – Distribution Director, joined AEI in 2002 and is responsible for overseeing all activity relating to the distribution of AEI’s Fund and 1031 offerings, national broker-dealer relationship development and management, and coordinating the review and approval of AEI Fund and 1031 marketing.
Prior to joining AEI, Paula was employed with Salomon Smith Barney as a Financial Adviser. She holds FINRA Series 7, Series 66 and Series 31 licenses.
Matthew Johnson, Regional Sales Director – West, originally joined AEI in 2013. He provides sales and marketing support for registered representatives, registered investment advisors (RIAs), and their high net worth clients in the Western region. He has been an integral part of the two largest capital raises in the company’s history.
Matthew has previously spent time as a financial advisor working with Ameriprise Financial. Prior to rejoining AEI in 2020, he was Regional Vice President at Capital Square, where he directed DST sales for the North Central and Northeast regions. Matt holds his FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses.
Triston Richert, Internal Sales Consultant – West, joined AEI in 2018. He is responsible for supporting external wholesalers with day to day operations, maintain a thorough knowledge of product and service offerings in order to accurately answer all questions and effectively recommend current offerings.
Triston is a graduate finance professional with two years of real estate experience. Prior to joining AEI, he attended the University of Minnesota-Crookston. While at the university, Triston held various marketing internships, as well as finance roles. He completed a double major in marketing and finance with a management minor.
Justin Tietema, Internal Sales Consultant – East, joined AEI in 2016. He is responsible for educating advisors and their clients with respect to 1031 DST and Fund portfolios and offerings from AEI and helping investors through the DST sales process. During his tenure with AEI, Justin has helped investors complete over $100 million dollars in 1031 exchange transactions.
Prior to joining AEI, Justin attended Minnesota State University – Mankato where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree.
Joshua McKinley, Product Specialist. Following one year of employment in 2008, he rejoined AEI in 2013. He is responsible for educating advisors and their clients with respect to 1031 DST and Fund portfolios and offerings from AEI, developing marketing materials and helping investors through the DST sales process. During his tenure with AEI, Josh has helped investors complete over $300 million dollars in 1031 exchange transactions.
Josh has worked in financial services for more than 20 years. Prior to joining AEI, he spent 11 years as a Financial Advisor, holds the FINRA Series 7, 66 and 31 licenses as well as the Certified Fund Specialist (CFS) designation and obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from Saint John’s University.
Heather Martin, Investor Services Manager, joined AEI in 2018. Heather is responsible for managing the Investor Services team while providing superior quality service to investors, financial advisors, custodial accounts and additional entities. She works closely with AEI’s Marketing, Accounting, and Sales teams to provide support in communications and investment publications.
Heather has more than 20 years of management, banking, sales, and mortgage experience. Prior to joining AEI, she was employed by SPIRE Credit Union as a Branch Manager and Marketplace Home Mortgage as a Senior Mortgage Loan Officer.
Stephanie Wallisch-Currier, Vice President – Human Resources, joined AEI in 2014 and is responsible for AEI’s overall human resource function, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization’s HR strategy. This position works closely with AEI’s Executive team to implement and manage effective employee relations, performance management, benefits, compensation, and talent acquisition practices.
Stephanie has more than 20 years of human resource experience. Prior to joining AEI, she was employed by USI and SPIRE Credit Union in their corporate human resources departments. She is certified through the Human Resource Certification Institute as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and through the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) as Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
Marissa Lassaux, Vice President – Acquisitions Due Diligence, joined AEI in 2007. She is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and disseminating due diligence documentation produced by commercial property acquisitions to ensure that due diligence documentation complies with AEI’s corporate policy. Additionally, she coordinates the creation of AEI’s 1031 product offering documents.
Marissa has more than 20 years of real estate title experience. Prior to joining AEI, she was employed as a Commercial Escrow officer at First American Title.
Brian Schulz, Vice President – Property Management, joined AEI in 1996 and is responsible for managing tenant lease compliance and property maintenance obligations.
Prior to joining AEI, Brian was responsible for risk management with Travelers Express Company, Inc. and Dun & Bradstreet, Inc.
Mark Estlund, Property Management Specialist, joined AEI in 2015. He coordinates with the Lease Management, Acquisitions, 1031 and Fund Departments, along with prospective and existing lessees to ensure compliance on negotiated maintenance issues dictated under the lease. He also is responsible for all property inspections for maintenance and condition evaluations to ensure a top-class commercial condition is preserved throughout the duration of the investment period with a focus on minimizing risk to the investor.
Mark has an extensive background in construction with more than two decades of experience ranging from set building for film and advertising production, historical preservation and conservation, historic home restoration, home renovation and new home building. Prior to joining AEI, Mark was the president and owner of Modern Craftsman as an independent contractor in Jacksonville, FL and was a new home builder and warranty specialist with Mattamy Homes.
Daniel Kersey, Property Management Specialist, joined AEI in 2012. He is responsible for ensuring tenant lease compliance, ensuring proper maintenance of properties through landlord and tenant maintenance and repairs and ensuring the accuracy and detail of AEI’s facilities database and records. As an Acquisition Property Inspector, Mr. Kersey reviews new property Phase One documentation, building plans, warranties and performs property inspections. He also reviews local residential, retail/medical markets as well as local city and educational facilities near the planned acquisition.
Daniel Kersey has over 18 years or Property/Maintenance Management and 15 years of Manufacturing Leadership experience. Prior to joining AEI, Mr. Kersey served as the Property Manager for Billman Properties in New Brighton, MN which included 2 office buildings and 24 townhomes.
